Run A Drill

Interactive preparedness drills

Practise what
happens next.

Most households have a vague plan and an untested assumption. A drill turns both into something you have actually done.

Prep drill — before

You get up
and check.

A prep drill sends you into your own home with a stopwatch. Find the water shut-off. Test the torches. Confirm whether the heating works without mains power. Every task ends verified, unknown, or needs action — never a tick you gave yourself.

Response drill — during

You sit down
and decide.

A response drill compresses time. The power is out, the fridge is warming, and one phone battery has to cover coordination or light. Choose, watch the constraints move, read what it cost you.

Lights Out

The power goes at 18:40 on a January evening. Restoration is uncertain and modelled by region. Warmth, food, water and charge all decay while you decide.

How a drill runs

Four steps, then again next winter.

01Tell it about your household

Region, people, pets, heating, vehicles. Two minutes, stored on your device.

02Do the tasks, or play the moment

Prep drills send you walking. Response drills put you under time pressure at the table.

03See what is actually true

Verified, unknown, needs action. The unknowns are usually the interesting part.

04Leave with a short list

Prioritised actions you can print. Then run it again and see the difference.

Your household stays on your device.

No account to make, nothing to log into. Drill state lives in your browser, drills run offline once loaded, and one action deletes all of it. We do not want your address and have nowhere to put it.

Questions

Is this emergency advice?
No. It is a rehearsal tool. It does not predict events, certify readiness, or replace guidance from your local authorities — and where a drill touches medical, legal or insurance ground, it says so and stops.
Do I get a readiness score?
Deliberately not. A single number would be false comfort in one direction or theatre in the other. You get what you verified, what is still untested, and what to do next.
How long does the free drill take?
About 35 minutes if you do the tasks properly, and you will be walking around your home for most of it. Stop halfway and come back — it remembers where you were.
Why do the response drills cost money?
They are the harder thing to build: an engine that models decay, uncertainty and consequence across 72 hours. One payment, no subscription, access stored on your device.
Is it going to frighten my kids?
It is written for the adults in the household and avoids catastrophe theatre. Children appear as people to plan for, and drills never ask a child to do something unsafe.
